Rebuilding Nature will provide a top-down strategy, utilising and enabling initiatives like the Nature Recovery Network and LNRS, by bridging the fundamental finance gap.
The Rebuilding Nature Strategic Nature Network (SNN) offers a more effective framework for private sector ownership in delivering meaningful and high-impact nature recovery efforts. Providing the scale of opportunity to fund institutional investment.
It will provide a nationally coordinated, cross-county approach, ensuring landscape-scale connectivity. This will enable species to move if and when they need to due to climate change.
It will ensure that landscape scale restoration is underpinned by restarting natural process for maximum benefits and resilience for nature, climate and people. Demonstrably delivering towards 30|30|30 .
Now that we have officially launched, We are swiftly turning our energy to delivery. Guided by our shared vision of nature as critical national infrastructure, we are getting to work on five foundational work packages:
- Strategic Nature Network Mapping – building a national, spatial framework of restored and connected ecosystems to guide land use decisions, public policy, and private investment.
- Nature Investment Zones (NIZ) Mapping – identifying large, strategic areas (10,000ha+) for nature recovery, where natural processes can be restarted and ecological integrity restored.
- NIZ Financial and Ecological Modelling – quantifying ecosystem services, carbon, biodiversity and investment potential to make nature restoration financially viable and durable.
- Connectivity Feasibility Modelling – developing green infrastructure interventions (e.g. green bridges and linear infrastructure) to restore functional connectivity across fragmented landscapes.
- Investment Readiness for Priority NIZs – preparing flagship NIZs to secure blended finance, engage stakeholders, and become demonstrators of investable nature recovery.
